There is more to healing than simply getting through it.
I’m Charmaine du Plessis-Jood, a registered social worker with 40 years of experience working alongside people, families and communities through some of life’s most difficult seasons.
Today, my work brings that experience into private practice, self-guided resources and practical tools designed to help people heal, and to help the professionals who support them work more sustainably.

A PRACTICE BUILT FROM 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
I’ve spent a long time listening to what people carry.
For four decades, I worked on the frontline of social work in South Africa, within the Department of Social Development. I worked with complex cases, demanding statutory systems and families navigating circumstances that rarely fit neatly into a form. I saw the effects of trauma, grief, displacement, family breakdown and prolonged pressure, and I also saw how much the people doing this work can carry themselves. That experience continues to shape my work today. I believe people deserve thoughtful support, practical tools, and space to understand what they are carrying, held with compassion, dignity, and recognition of their full story, including their history, context, and lived experience.
Three ways I work

Through professional social work services for individuals, couples, families, workplaces and organisations.
The work may involve navigating a difficult season, understanding what has happened, processing grief or trauma, making sense of family dynamics, or finding a more sustainable way forward.

Through digital journals designed for people who want to do deeper personal work in their own time.
They are structured rather than prescriptive, giving you somewhere to pause, question, write and explore what may otherwise remain difficult to name.

Through digital tools informed by the realities of frontline social work.
After years of managing heavy caseloads and the administrative demands that accompany them, I understand how easily paperwork can take time away from people. These resources are designed to help reduce that load while keeping professional judgement where it belongs: with you.
Some patterns have a history.
In my years of practice, I have seen how experiences can move through families and across generations. Through what is remembered, what is forgotten, what is never spoken about, and the ways people learn to survive.
Questions of identity and belonging have become an important part of my own work too, including my connection to the Kei Korana/Khoisan heritage. This has deepened my interest in the relationship between personal healing, family history, displacement and the stories we inherit.
It is one of the reasons I create resources that invite people to look beneath the surface to understand what has shaped them and choose what they want to carry forward.

ROOTED IN COMPASSION. GROUNDED IN EXPERIENCE.
My Christian faith remains an important part of who I am and the foundation from which I approach my work: with compassion, dignity, love and a belief in the possibility of restoration.
But this space is open to people from different backgrounds, beliefs and ways of understanding themselves.
You do not have to arrive with all the answers. You only need a willingness to begin.
Good work should not cost you your wellbeing.
The professional tools developed here come directly from the realities of frontline practice.
For social workers, that means practical prompt resources designed to help with repetitive drafting and administrative work, supporting efficiency without replacing professional judgement.
For pastors and ministry leaders, it means resources designed specifically for sermon preparation and ministry, bringing counselling and mental-health insight into a Christian context.
A Place to Begin
You don’t have to figure out the next step on your own.
If you are looking for professional support, a resource to work through privately, or tools to make your professional life a little more manageable, start with the path that feels most relevant to you.
And if you’re not sure, that’s okay too.
